Casablanca

I wonder
canwestillbesurprised?
yes
I have never seen a place like this
the architecture is a dream
like someone in one of my fairy tales
was queen
and said
please design this
with eye candy in mind
and so it was
a city of swurvies
and diamonds
of angles
and curlies
of stucco
and color
of dirt
and orange oils
casa
blanca

It sparkles
it fizzes in between
my smile & my chest
produces heat
& fuel
to shoot far into space
my face is red
this
is nothing

The Big Hole

The sun was like
a clean spotless mirror
shining on everything
White sidewalks tanned the skin
There was a hole in the middle of the buildings
Something demolished
to be built again
At first I grew excited
about the new architecture
and then I felt dismayed
The walls of the other buildings
stood tall next to the hole
Ugly
and symmetric
I wanted them gone too
so we could see the blue sky
from here
to there

Love

Love feels like an explosion
And then a warm nap
In soft sheets in the middle of the morning
my head smushed in between clean pillows
Love feels like sunshine shining through the blinds
Birds singing waking you
Love feels like endless time to do as you please
And open skies that look like oceans that you swim in
Love feels like the best colors
red, blue, yellow and shades of green
Jumping out making you feel at home
And happy
Love feels like morning
Love feels slow
& smily
Love is messy hair
and pajamas
in the afternoon
Love is hours of music
Love is laughter

percentages

mileage plus miles
and
an 18 percent tip
calculated on a
touch screen
a text message from
google
telling me im lost
college loans
automatically withdrawn
a list of secret passwords
hacked into
internet bill
increased by 20%
again last month
excel file budget
i spent too much
categories
of where my heart
should be
formulas for how i
should feel
at the end of each month
20% to food
20% to clothing
20% to the pharmacy
percentages of my need
as a median human
from this neighborhood
and with that job
if I do these percentages
if I manage success
then I can stop working
some time
and begin to rest
at a time when I am
too tired to rest
anyhow

i looked for you

It was inside the yellow black
Dots
Of the velvet cocoon of petals
That I searched for you
With a glass
I looked in between
Certain that there you would be
Once I learned that you were not
I fell to the ground
And among the green blades
I followed an ant
A burden on his back
I searched for you
Along his path
When he met his fellows
And you were not there
I climbed to the tree top
And balanced on the end
Certain that in the nest
Of the newborns there you would be
Into the mouth of the crying
Chick I looked
And you were not to be found
And so I climbed to the mountain top
Searching in the clouds for your laughter
Feeling in the wind for your embrace
I came down from the mountain
And into my bed
I looked under the sheets
In that white shell of light
You were not to be found
My head fell back onto
the feathers of birds
I grew tired
or entranced
I closed my eyes

And there you were
